BRAND NEW PENCIL & OIL PAINT COURSE - STARTING ON MAY 21st 2026!
 
Introducing the Summer oil panting course with materials included. A perfect class for anyone who is looking to discover or improve their oil panting skills alongside other practising artists in a friendly & sociable setting.
 
The course will take place over 10-weeks and cover 4 separate projects which are as follows.
 
-Large Pencil & Glazing Portrait
The project begins with a contemporary portrait focusing on strong contrast and vibrant colour. A tonal drawing is created with dark matte pencil, using hatching and cross-hatching to build depth while keeping the work clean and controlled. After sealing the paper with transparent gesso, oil paint glazes are applied to add colour while allowing the tonal drawing beneath to remain visible.
 
-Micro Brushstrokes
Using fine detail brushes, this project focuses on precise strokes on aluminium to keep colours bright and vibrant. Layering and feathering techniques build texture and smooth transitions.
 
-Landscape Diptych
You will create an alla prima diptych in the style of Emily Carr, painting a daytime and a nocturnal landscape simultaneously. The project focuses on wet-on-wet painting, energetic brushwork, and exploring light, colour, and mood.
 
At the start of each project, I will present a thorough live demonstration where you can ask questions in real time and understand the techniques and approaches, I used to complete the artwork. As each class is 3 hours long, you will always have sufficient time to start your piece of work while I am on hand to offer 1-on-1 feedback & advice to all students. As all my curriculums are created & tutored by me you are guaranteed to learn directly from the person who designed the projects. As I tutor both beginner & improver students, I can tailor advice to everyone no matter what their experience, but the course will be better suited to someone with a little painting experience (even if it's not in oils)
 
After purchasing a place on the course, you will receive a document outlining all the details of what to expect from this course. As the course begins you will receive links to references that will need to either be downloaded or printed out before you come to class. 
 
The only materials you will be expected to bring alongside a picture will be your brushes (of any shape, types and sizes), rags and/or kitchen roll, and a palette.
 
Important ; All clean-up will need to be done at home. For example, rags or tissues used in class are to be taken home with you and not disposed of at the venue, and any oil brush & palette cleaning will need to be done outside of class. Alternatively, you can store your brushes in your freezer until the following week. This means you won't need to clean them until the end.
You will also be required to take your wet paintings home with you and bring them back the following week. I recommend using a cardboard box to store your work during transportation.
