BRAND NEW 'ONE-OFF' COURSE FOR MAY 2025!
 
Introducing for the first time an oil panting course with materials included. A perfect class for anyone who is looking to improve their oil panting skills alongside other practising artists in a friendly & sociable setting.
 
The course will take place over 10-weeks and cover 3 separate projects which are as follows.
-Miniature portrait
This project will help you understand the mapping of a face with a charcoal study. Going on to underpaint tonal values, then complete a portrait Alla Prima (meaning "at first attempt"). This will encourage decent brush control and being able to utilize smaller brushes to not only detail but refine larger areas too.
 
-Grisaille & Glazing
Starting with a grisaille (tones of grey) underpainting we will enhance the painting with glazes of transparent colour over the top. This will help your understanding of tonal values and layering.
 
-Sfumato
A great project to grips with blending and graduating colour & tone using sfumato techniques (from Italian sfumare, “to tone down” or “to evaporate like smoke”)
 
If you complete a project early you are free to paint anything you with using the materials provide but will need to supply your own supports i.e canvas, panels etc. There will be primed oil painting paper available to buy at every class. 
 
At the start of each project, I will present a thorough live demonstration where you can ask questions in real time and understand the techniques and approaches, I used to complete the artwork. As each class is 3 hours long, you will always have sufficient time to start your piece of work while I am on hand to offer 1-on-1 feedback & advice to all students. As all my curriculums are created & tutored by me you are guaranteed to learn directly from the person who designed the projects. As I tutor both beginner & improver students, I can tailor advice to everyone no matter what their experience, but the course will be better suited to someone with a little painting experience (even if it's not in oils)
 
After purchasing a place on the course, you will receive a document outlining all the details of what to expect from this course. As the course begins you will receive links to references that will need to either be downloaded or printed out before you come to class. 
The only materials you will be expected to bring alongside a picture will be your brushes (of any shape, types and sizes), rags and/or kitchen roll, and a small jar/pot with a lid - think 30-50ml.
 
Important. All clean-up will need to be done at home. For example, rags or tissues used in class are to be taken home with you and not disposed of at the venue, and any oil brush & palette cleaning will need to be done outside of class.
You will also be required to take your wet paintings home with you and bring them back the following week. I recommend using a cardboard box to store your work during transportation.
